Today, however, I'm going to write about my beautiful Granddaughter Emma Ann Wolff that was born on December 1, 2009. I was able to be with my daughter through the majority of her labor and then during Emma's birth. I got some amazing photos, some that can't be shared, but many that can. Emma was born after 31 hours of labor, 20 of which were active hours, the first 11 were mostly latent and with very little that Therese could feel contraction wise.
Briefly, her water broke at around 11am on November 30, she called the doctor and also called her fiancee Bryan as he was at school in Madison. She went up to the hospital around 12:30pm, then checked her and she was around 2cm. So she pretty much just hung around the L&D floor, walked, watched TV. Her Dr checked her again at 5:30 and found she was still at 2cm, but he said she still had bulging bag of water, so broke it with the amniohook. At 9:30 that night she was still at 2, so I went home. Around 11:30 that night, she started feeling contractions.
At 5am the next morning she was at 3cm, and they decided to start Pitocin. I got there around 8 and she got on the birthing ball. Most of the contractions were in her back and she was in a lot of pain. I was doing counter-pressure on her back during contractions, but it didn't help much. It did help her to bounce on the ball though during her contractions.
The doctor checked once again at 10:30 and she was still only at 3cm AND he found she STILL had water bulging, so broke that once again. She instantly went from 3 to6cm while he still hand his fingers there checking her. She decided that she wanted the epidural since her back pain was so great, so that was administered at 11:30. So once she got the epi she was happy.
Emma was born at 6:16pm, weighing 6lbs 10 oz and she was 19" long. She's absolutely beautiful!
I will add more pictures in my next post.
